Supplementary Education

Supplementary education settings are community-based organisations that provide additional educational opportunities and support for children and young people alongside their mainstream education.

They often provide heritage language, cultural and religious education, as well as additional support with literacy, numeracy, science and homework. These settings play an important role in strengthening children’s learning, identity, confidence and connection to their communities.

Working alongside local partners, YPF Trust helps strengthen safe, effective and high-quality supplementary education provision. We build collaboration across local systems and raise the profile and recognition of supplementary education among mainstream schools, local authorities and other services working with children and young people.

Our work takes a place-based approach, building the capacity of local partnerships and supplementary education settings to respond to the priorities and needs of their communities. By strengthening connections with mainstream education, youth services and other local partners, we help create stronger local systems around children and young people. Our programmes strengthen quality, develop practice and increase the visibility and recognition of supplementary education.

Solid Foundations – Supporting settings to develop safe, well-managed provision, with up-to-date policies and procedures aligned with DfE safeguarding guidance.
Quality Mark Award – Helping settings reflect on, strengthen and demonstrate the quality of their educational provision.
Training & Capacity Building– Developing the skills, confidence and practice of teachers, practitioners and leaders through creative teaching, human rights education, inclusive practice and leadership development.
Partnerships & Profile – Strengthening local partnerships and raising the visibility, recognition and profile of supplementary education.
